There have been players that have gone to the NBA straight out of high school (ie Kobe Bryant). However, the NBA has changed their draft rules. Players can not be drafted until one year after their high school class graduated.
There is also the path of playing "semi-pro" backetball in many leagues across America. Players in these leagues hope they catch the eye of an NBA scout. There is also the possibility of playing in Europe.
Good Luck.
BTW...It is also important to actually be good at playing basketball. There is a difference between thinking you are good and actually being good!!!

Yes
However, you can no longer be drafted out of High School - so anyone who said that is wrong. They changed the rules a year or two ago that you have to be out of High School for at least one year before eligibility.
There are some players whose academics aren't good enough after High School. Some of them will attend Junior (2 year) colleges, some will play in the D-League and some play in Europe. There sometimes are individual team tryouts in the summer. Usually you have to have an agent that will put your name out to different coaches so you can get invited to try out.

Not really. The NBA is looking for players with experience on a team and who are incredibly skilled. There are tons and tons of those to choose from at the various College and University teams, so they have no reason to look elsewhere.

Since the 20-year-old age limit they implemented, you would most likely have to go to college first. If you don't want to go to college, you can play overseas and they'll draft you from there or you can get signed as a free-agent. You don't have to have college experience or much experience at all to play professtionally in Europe.

You could get drafted out of high school, if you're REALLY outstanding, like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, etc.
