Is it feasible to mail order crickets and have them sustainable outdoors in a "cricket bin." for just one gecko? If it's feasible, please give me some details about raising crickets. Or maybe I should continue my weekly trek to the pet store?

I wouldnt even worry about trying to raise crickets on your own... its too much work and stress... another thing is that if you order crickets there isnt a guarantee that some of them would be dead when you got them.. I would just buy them at the store... You could also get a small container and get twice as much crickets (theres food that you could buy for the crickets to eat so they dont die) That way you wont have to go to the pet store for 2 weeks instead of every week =) I hope this was helpful... This is what I did!

I keep my leopard gecko's crickets in the refridgerator, in a covered plastic container. I live near a pet store, and they told me that mail-order crickets are twice as likely to die before they arrive. I suggest that you go to PetSmart, or another store and buy the crickets at the store.

i also have only one leopard gecko
i purchase 4 dozen crickets at a time 1 dollar per dozen, good for about 2 weeks
i feed my crickets apple pieces and they do great, used to feed them potato but that smells bad really quick

mail order is much cheaper like 1000 for 20 bucks about 25 cents per dozen, but those crickets would die before the gecko could eat them all

There are lots of places where you can order crickets in bulk and have them shipped to you. Keeping them alive (even inside a house) is another story. If you kept them outside, you'd also encounter problems with changing temperatures (sun on their container heating up the inside, for example).

A better solution, if you have the space, is to set up a breeding colony indoors (maybe on a porch or in a garage if you have warm, stable temperatures?). You'd need multiple containers, one for the breeders and a few grow-out tanks (I use several old/cracked/leaker 10 gallon tanks for this, so it doesn't have to be a lot of room. Here's the website that got me started on this: http://www.skylab.org/~chugga/cricket/

Good luck!
