uninstall the drive and let windows auto detect it again. If it's an old drive, you may have a power calibration error. Which can mean the drive is going out. Mine did that same thing, but it would still play cds. If you have nero run drivecheck. See what nero says on the media compatibility. If all else fails, go to toshibas tech support.

The Best way to tell if is a SOFTWARE problem or a HARDWARE problem >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Tosh supply you with a recovery DVD - insert this a restart the computer and hold down C - if it gives you a option for a recovery then you DVD drive is working OK and it will be a software problem and not a hardware problem

If not then a Hardware problem then if in warranty contact your re-seller

Obviously do not select any options for the recovery - just remove the disk and then restart

> If doesn't give the option for the recovery the hardware fault will BASICALLY be than when the OS reads from the CD or DVD it uses different MIRRORS > then the mirror used for the DVD has become miss alligned or dirty

You could try a CD/DVD cleaner - But doubt will work

Hope this helps

could well just be the software, downloading software that plays dvds doesnt mean they will work with your particular drive, how old is the drive compared to the software ? if you are sure they are compatible then it could just be the drive nearly had it,much the same as standard dvd players many will still read cds a good while after the laser will not read dvds anymore same with playstations. good luck

More information is needed. Did you install the software that came with the dvd drive? You need software to run dvd's or burn cd's and dvd's. Nero showtime or power dvd, there are a number of programs that will play dvd's
