If you aren't into reading, the language of that book can be a little bit much to get through, but there are many resources where you can get a summary. If you know what's happening, it will make following along easier when you read the book.

It is always a little difficult to relate well to older books, and The Scarlett Letter is from the 1850s. That said; it is a well written book with a strong message.Hawthorne is one of the best fiction writers of his era.
Is it a hard book? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes.

It's hard to stay interested. If you know about the time period it was written, and that time period interests you, then you'll probably enjoy it.
I never read it, but I helped someone with their homework. I started reading on chapter 4 and knew exactly what was going on. I was still bored, despite the fairly interesting plot line. In other words, the first few chapters are probably mind-numbing. Again, this is probably due to the time Hawthorne wrote it. Give it a try, it's not that difficult and it's not that long.

Well, its not a hard book to read per say, but it may be a hard book to decipher in terms of literary techniques. I read it for my English class and personally thought it sucked big time. The way Hawthorne writes is similar to the book Moby Dick. So if you liked that writer's style then you'll like Hawthorne's. (Also I'm pretty sure the author of Moby Dick and Hawthorne were close friends anyway)

I think you're asking if it's difficult to read. It is a little tougher to read than contemporary novels because it written in the English of the 1600's and it's a little different. It's a very good story though and worth the trouble.
I like audio books and listened to it on my MP3 player. That's the way to go in my opinion.

Oh what a wonderful, romantic heart breaker! The original "chick flick" in a fiction novel! I just know that there must have been-- and still are-- many sad women with the Scarlet letter seared into their hearts by unfeeling, uncaring bigots and overtly strict families. Read it!Read it!!! Read it!! It's not hard, it's totally engrossing, it's a "soap" in a binding!

I thought it was a sad book from what I can remember. You might get some hard questions if you're reading it for a class assignment. It will be easy to read once you get interested in it.

It sure can be! The language, the way the language is used I mean, is not the way we use it today. Words come and go out of fashion...it can make the book a bit difficult.

Do you mean hard covered or hard to read? It's not a hard read at all, it's a very good book and yes, you can get it hard covered at Barnes & Noble.

It can be a difficult read at times. Overall, it is a decent book. It is not one of my favorites, but I think it is a classic that everyone should read.
