After last weeks unicef report, does anyone else think that we are suffering from national/collective amnesia? Since the story has disappeared rapidly from public scrutiny.

Could be because we don't care - which is exactly what the UNICEF report pointed at. I care actually, i genuinely think we treat young teenagers like ****, make out they're invisible and then wonder why we don't get the respect we think we deserve. In the town where i live there has been an 80 year petition attempting to get the local council to build a swimming pool. Some young teenagers have also been trying to get the town council to earmark a site for a skateboard park, they've been promised one but surprise surprise every site put forward is rejected by the council - in the meantime, seemingly overnight, a block of retirement flats appear in the middle of town - this country's sole reason d'etre is PROFIT, and unfortunately for British children the stuff they need for a happy life just doesn't generate profit so they're stuffed and this my friend is probably why the shocking UNICEF report has been quietly shelved.

I'm not sure I can add anything much to Wigginski's excellent answer.

It was a damning report wasn't it? The reason it disappeared was because it made uncomfortable reading, especially for the government whose policies are pretty near identical to the Tory party's. I think there is a dog eat dog attitude that has got worse in the last few years. It was made out to be a good thing by Maggie Thatcher and unfortunately there are lots of people still out there who think she was a marvellous leader. In my opinion she destroyed the sense of community in this country and did her level best to do the same to the working class. The trouble is now no one thinks they are working class. The gap between those who have everything and those who have nothing is widening and unless something is done it will cause social unrest.

It's such a shame Labour ditched all it's socialist principles just to get elected. Nothing to choose between them now. The one good thing is lots of people still care.

The answer lies in changing the politically correct policies advocated by sections of the liberal media and now adopted by the establishment as sacred cows. Not to be talked about as this will highlight the failed policies being per sued for the last couple of decades..Major new thinking on creating a welfare dependency subculture, unmarried parenthood to single improvised mothers becoming the norm. The forced acceptance of a minority of uncivilised immigrants onto society and the emphasis on a failed multi cultural model in general. Mostly the abstinence of effective punishment onto criminals where the system treats them as the victims not the predators they are.
