I don't think this is true. But if it were, it would likely be because, due to the socialist nature of the government in Canada, the people pay through the nose for taxes. It also may have something to do with the Olympics, but that's not for 5 more years.

Vancouver is very clean cause people just don t really litter here. I m from Vancouver and live in Langley so I m very firmiliair with the city. Seattle isn t that dirty. I ve been there and it s actually quite clean. Seattle is clean compared to other big cities like LA or New York but obviously not as clean as Vancouver. I LOVE VANCOUVER SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

It's true. Vancouver is much cleaner and "liveable" than Seattle. I am from Seattle and have grown quite jealous of the way Vancouver has jumped way ahead of Seattle in making their downtown a nice place to live. With the exception of the highway system, Vancouver is a much nicer place to live in terms of urban lifestyle. Vancouver has no highway system, so getting to the North end of town to the South parts can be a long frustrating journey, based on the time of day. But, on the other hand, there are no overpasses, i.e. the shoreline, creating an eyesoar thoughout the city. Yes, there is a seedy "ghetto" in some areas around Hastings, but the City of Vancouver has managed to isolate all of the homeless and drugees to that area, wheras it seems everyplace you go in Seattle, there is homeless or drugee beggers to be seen. Street cleanliness is no comparison, Vancouver is much cleaner. Walkable sidewalks and numerous pedestrian friendly street crossings, advantage: Vancouver. Urban conveniences like little sidewalk produce markets, grocery stores, restaurants and shops on nearly every block throughout town, Vancouver by leaps and bounds. Numerous beautiful condo and apartment choices: Vancouver. Scenic mountains cuddling right around the city makes Vanvouver again a nicer place to look at. Smooth paved streets without potholes that blow out your car tires, again Vancouver. I know i sound very biased, but remember, I'm a Seattlelite. I want everybody to be aware of this so it can become a public agenda to catch up to our "Clean" neighbors to the north. I'm sure having the Olympics has helped too, but, you can't get the Olympics unless the city is already impressive. Check this story for a similar point of view from another Seattlelite: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2003/0202/cover.html

Apparently, somebody has never been to Main and Hastings in Vancouver's Eastside. It looks like one of those ghettos you see in South L.A. or the Bronx. Obviously, if you stay in trendy and nice places like the Westend or Granville, Vancouver is going to seem like paradise. However, like any other city, it has its dark side.
It's the same with Seattle. Downtown Seattle is not the nicest area of the Seattle region. And despite all the tourists, the Seattle Center area is downright seedy. However, the U district and Bellevue are absolutely glorious on a sunny day.

I suggest you go to www.seattle.gov. it talks about all the future upgrades that will improve the city center. BTW the city center encompasses about six distinct areas. New zoning laws have come into effect for the city, downtown, specifically to make it more pedestrian freindly and more "livable". Population forcasters predict Seattle will have a inner city populaiton of a million.
