Leogirl08---I was drafted into the military many years ago, and I'm a decorated vet. I doubt that you can make this claim.
If this kind of research was not promising, why would so many scientists be asking for it; and who the hell are you to say they're wrong?

Leogirl08---You object to using these cells for research, but it's O.K. to send them to the garbage dump, right?

well if we cleave the blasocyst cells prior to differentiation, we can still use the embryonic stem cells, and no baby is lost, because the implanted cells will still grow to the same mass.

also, embryonic stem cells don't have to be harvested from embryoes. that was just a good and simple means to not let snowflake babies go to the garbage disposal and be wasted.

this would be one reason we abolished the draft......

in extreme circumstances tough decisions have to take place. The only reason they would is if there was an extreme risk to the survival of this country.

as of today I think the number was something along the lines of 40 different areas of interest have been addressed by adult stem cell work and 0 from embryonic. If there was a future in embryonic a smart businessman would be providing the funding to research it like they are in adult. I would bet that if a scientist came out with scientific proof that embryonic could.. say cure cancer or something most of the people who really understand the situation would change their views. and at that point the govt would also put restrictions on the other areas of concern by these groups. ie the practice of selling embryos for research... but until that point, the point of necessity, it should not be governmentally addressed.

I think you are missing the point. You need to do a few things first.
Specify are they stem cells from Embryos, Adults or Blood Cord.
and you also need to specify whether we are talking about being against it altogether or just against tax payer funding for it.

I am for something that has shown promise. Blood cord cell research has already shown proven promise. Adult stem cells have shown promise. Embryonic stem cells havent shown any promise.
But its the Embryonic program that the argument is over. And im ok that the research happens even for that. But I am not going to put my tax payer dollars behind it because it hasn't shown any evidence of any breakthroughs.

Slight difference is that the soldiers volunteer to go to war and are willing to risk their lives to protect your life. The thing with embryonic stem cell research is that first off the child who is killed didn't volunteer for this, and secondly, there hasn't been anything to come of it. there hasn't been a single discovery from any embryonic stem cell research. I'd want to put my money where there is going to be results.

Military personnel volunteer to risk their lives. Embryos have no say in the matter which makes their destruction wrong. Sorry your argument doesn't fly and killing innocent life is wrong.

do you know there are adult stem cells and umbilical cord stem cells available without murdering a baby? Please don't talk about the military, you have no clue and you are embarrassing yourself.
