Since a new hero was created in Step on a crack.....

Only the author know for sure. Many authors get tired of writing about the same hero and like to start another series using a different protagonist. This doesn't mean that Alex Cross will not re-appear!

I don't think so-- Patterson has multiple series going. In fact, he has SIX books coming out this year! He also does the Women's Murder Club series (those are the ones with the numbers--5th Horseman was the last one, the next one is 6th Target. He's doing a lot with co-authors now.

Besides, Cross didn't resolve a lot of things (the book entitled "Cross" that is) so he has to tie it all up later.
