what are the benefits of capitalism over other forms of government? no bad-mouthing folks, not looking for downsides, im looking for upsides. i only notice individuality as a benefit, but not everyone thinks that a benefit. anything solid?

Everyone has the opportunity to achieve wealth. The inventor is rewarded, the author is rewarded, the businessman is rewarded. As opposed to socialism where there is no incentive to achieve as everyone is sentenced to a predetermined outcome. You will either be part of the Politcal elite or you will more likely be part of the working poor!

capitalism isn't a form of govt, it's an economic model.

we must also face the fact that things like no-bid contracts, corporate welfare, farm aid, subsidizing oil companies and tobacco companies have nothing to do with free market forces.

capitalism in it's true form - called objectivism - is a great way to run things. in theory, the best WILL ALWAYS RISE TO THE TOP. ability is everything, things like entrenched power have no place in the objectivist society.

in the truly capitalist society things like the electric car, roads that last for 30 years and solar power would all be a reality and not a pipe dream - because all of the status quo market forces that keep new ideas from sweeping would not exist. it would be deeply disruptive to business, but very rewarding to consumers and the world at large.

people with great ideas would be the most powerful people in our society. the fact that someone who has no money has great ideas would not matter - that person would still have more power than any wealthy dullard.

ask yourself the question:
who is john gault - and be ready for the answer.

john gault was the man who said he would stop the motor of the world and did.

in the objectivist world of ayn rand, john gault was the greatest man who ever lived - the man who created the perpetual energy, friction engine - an engine that used the friction of moving through air to generate the needed energy to keep it in motion.

he was disgusted with the world we live in now and sought to bring it down so that it could be rebuilt properly.

people who think that pure capitalism is such a great idea should bear these things in mind...

The free market is the major benefit of capitalism. The fact that it is consumers (average citizens) that determine what kinds of products and services they want. The price of products in a free market is almost totally dependent on the demand for that good or service and how much of that good or service exists. The free market forces companies and people to use resources more efficiently to maximize production and therefore maximize profit.
