I made this really nice lighthouse and now have no idea how to keep the sand in place so I can ship it to the intended recipient.

You need to mix a solution of watered dow glue in water and wet the sand, befor you mold it. Now you could try painting it with a clear epoxy paint, but it likely won't work!

In any large craft store you can get shrink wrap plastic in the area where they sell cellophane. Cut a piece of the plastic large enough to cover the lighthouse ( like you were wrapping an Easter basket). Gather it at the top and secure it tightly with a piece of tape. With your hairdryer, shrink the plastic down to the shape of the lighthouse. This should work. Tie some festive ribbons around the top and pack a baggie with some extra sand, in case some repairs have to be made.

Mix Elmers white glue and hot water in a spray bottle(experiment with consistancy) and spray over the sand it will soak in and act as an adhesive. You can also mix the sand directly with the glue but this is very messy
