I'd like to start one, but I don't wanna spend a lot of money. So, my question is, do you just buy normal stamps and wait for their value to raise over the years? Or do you have to buy 'special stamps'?
And how do you store them? Do you just stick them in a notebook?

If you go to a hobby shop you will find a LOT of hobby materials for stamp collecting. They make special albums for stamps...although when I was younger I just used a photo album. But if you want stamps to stay in "mint" condition I would recommend an album intended for stamps only.

If you join a stamp collectors club, whether it be online or in the real world, you will meet a lot of people who can tell you where to get great stamps...old and new. Also, they may have a stamp exchange at the meetings.

Its been a while since I collected stamps...I was in a stamp class in 4th grade when I was working on my collection. I was also fortunate to have an uncle that traveled a lot since he was a pilot and would send me stamps from all over the world.

But whatever you do....don't lick the stamp....once its used it more than likely it will be worthless.

Its definitely a fun hobby though. Good Luck.

P.S. Check the Post Office out too for more information....sometimes they have some really great stamps and stamp collecting information, stamp books, etc.

As your grand parents for their old stamps (every one have a few stamps some where in shoe box..)

Or visit ebay or stampnews.com for modern or new stamps.

By the way you can buy under-1900-year stamp for $1-$5.
