you must be observing a different republican party than the one i'm seeing these days.
the republicans are the ones who allowed credit card companies and pay day loan companies to become legal extortion crime synicates.
the republicans have the distinction of being the only party in usa's history to procede with a hurrican rescue based on party lines, ignoring new orleans to the horror of the world. to this day new orleans is ignored by the federal govt and is in a deplorable state.
the republicans have illegally wiretapped people's phones and other communications in the name of national security while at the same time allowing a company with direct ties to 9/11 and the attack on the uss cole (DPW) to run 21 critical american ports.
the republicans in congress have rubber stamped bush's rush to war, while allowing none of their own kids to participate in the actual war.
the republican congress is the first in american history to cut taxes during wartime.

Because the Democrats don't believe that the American people are capeable of taking care of themselves. That's why they want a government program for just about everything.

Isn't it strange that such a question is only being raised in America - and not by those citizens in those industrialized nations where Liberals control the government and their citizens seem to be happier and feel safer than we are?

I believe you have it backwards. Please, next time give examples. One thing that comes to mind in my side is that the Republican Administration just cut benefits to veterans hospitals to help pay for the war. What are little children going to do and how much harder will it be without Sesame Street etc.? Cutting PBS and its radio equivelent to pay for the war. Hold on to your pocket book unless you are filthy rich you are next.

They don't. Republicans care only about money. Democrats care about money first, then people. Greens care about owls, then money, then people.
