The Internet is always a great distraction: news, blogs, Y! Answers, and whatever else takes your fancy. I have Netflix (for DVD movies) and some video games, too, if I have an excess of free time on my hands and other people are doing other things.

Of course, sometimes it's nice to get some homework done. There's usually something you could be doing (even if in advance).

When all else fails, sing along with your music collection (assuming you don't have a roommate or a roommate that doesn't mind/isn't there).

When I changed schools and didn't know anyone, I would take my free time at school and do my homework that way it was done and if I had any questions I could deal with it then. I would also journal. I wish you all the best. Also keep some puzzle books and a regular book around to use during that really dead time. Good luck =)

Get a job. Nothing to do can lead to trouble. A job
will get you some spending money, but better than
that, instill in you some work experience, work ethics,
etc. You'll soon be out of shool and your friends will
be gone...you'll be surprised what doors employment
will open for you.
