Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Its probably spyware that is running from a startup group, registry entry, or dll hook. Try going into safe mode and going into your program files and manually deleting the file folders if they still exist (the folder name is usually the name of the product or company that made the software). Goto start, run, then type in msconfig and click on the startup tab. Scroll down this list and uncheck any file name that logically sounds like it would be associated. Hope this helps and gets you on the right track. If you need more help, IM me.

Sounds like McAfee Anti-Virus. It's actually a very good virus scanner. But if it has slowed your machine down, either your already loaded with virus or just taking up too much memory. Either way you should go to your Control Panel and then to ADD/REMOVE programs.

It's spyware. They infect your computer with a virus then try to sell you software to remove it and when you download it is is more spyware which penetrates your computer further.
Good luck !
