It starts with a trader who sells his white horse to a knight of king Arthur's round table. He's taken to a room and allowed to pick any treasure to trade for his hourse. He picks a brimstone gem

Then two children a boy called Colin and a girl arrive at a town to stay with family (a town in Yorkshire-can't remember where)

Anyway, the two children discover the brimstone and start getting chased by these ugly evil creatures. I can't remember much else, sorry.

I hope someone can help as I'd love that book

Is it the Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner?

If yes it's set in Alderley Edge in Cheshire, the girl's name is Susan and the ugly evil creatures are svart-alfar, which is almost a real-world term and it means "dark elves".

He wrote another book too called The Moon of Gomrath, with the same lead characters.

I in basic terms have been given accomplished analyzing '1984' with the help of George Orwell and that become an exceptionally exciting tale. i'm analyzing 'Atlas Shrugged' with the help of Ayn Rand suitable now. i'm no longer too far into it yet what i've got study its solid. 'The Hitchhiker's instruction manual to the Galaxy' with the help of Douglas Adams is a robust sequence. in case you considered the movie, study the books. lots extra advantageous and extra tale than the movie.

Do know it is not "The Wierdstone of Brisingamen" Excuse the spelling if it is wrong.
If the brimstone is an important part of the plot, I would guess that Brimstone is in the title.
