Grab a few pencils, a good eraser, and a sketchpad. Get the comic strip section of the newspaper. Using any of your favorite comics, pick one to draw. Then draw it over and over and over again, until you are so comfortable with the way its shaped and the pen moves over the paper. Do not draw thick and heavy lines, keep the pencil light on the paper.

Then graduate to enlarging the comic(cartoon) by using a grid system. On the comic strip itself, draw a light grid around the cartoon to be enlarged, divide it into equal squares (much like cutting a pan of brownies into equal sizes) then on a new blank piece of paper, draw a larger grid very similar the grid on the comic strip. Copy the way lines are drawn in each grid transferring them from the strip to the blank paper, drawing lightly with your pencil. You'll be amazed at how easy drawing becomes. Try it and see!

Go to the bookstores &/or stores like Media Play & look for "cartooning books", or go to a website on "how to draw comics & cartoons" I LOVE drawing cartoons & comics & am trying to do something with it. (start out by drawing other comic faces, etc, & then create your own, look at a photo of someone & draw them up as a comic face/cartoon, make it a daily thing, it can be fun-good luck.
