If you go into any mervyns store and ride their escalator you will hear in the background some music... that is escalator music and could even be considered ...elevator music.... Also if you hear your favorite Creed song, Pat Benetar, Boston, Rage against the machine song or black sabbath song or Jethro tull song or Pantera song being played with the flute with no singing... that is elevator music.Elevator music takes the melody of a song (if it has one ) and transfigures it or changes it into a non lethal, non potent, non aggressive form of digestible music which is well suited for people who wear pace makers. It is conducive to shopping for towels and kitchen items such as pans and coffee makers, cheese graters, make-up and the like. When you go to the dentist and you are sitting waiting for your turn to arrive and you hear music... that is elevator music. When you watch the dating game reruns on channel nine and they are waiting an answer... that is elevator music. Also do you know Lawrence Welk. He is the embodiment of elevator music. In the future who knows where elevator music might be. It is soothing and very calm music, despised by the punk generation, loathed by heavy metallers and well liked with the grandma crowd. Hope this helps.

Relaxing, some call "easy listening" and some say "boring" music that used to be played through Muzak on elevators and in some waiting rooms & doctors offices.

It's also called Muzak. It is instrumental versions of songs, both known and unknown. It is played in elevators (or at least, it used to be) and in department stores, waiting rooms, airports, shopping malls, and on phones when you are put on hold.

Annoying background music.
Most likely Kenny G or anything with a saxophone in it,
or any annoying adult contemporary music from today and years ago.
I hate it.
