The grocery stores in my area accept plastic shopping bags for recycling, and I am wondering if I can add other types of (clean!) thin plastic (such as Ziploc bags, sandwich baggies, shrink-wrap packaging, etc.) for recycling as well.

Most liikely - but that doesn't mean they get recycled. We investigated in our area regarding the stores that take bags back for recycling - it appears to be mainly a PR gimmick. NO ONE could tell us what happens to the bags - and the local plants that actually DO recycling, say they have no use for plastic grocery bags.

I believe that the bags that are gathered by stores are "recycled" directly to a landfill.

Melting the bags releases toxic fumes. Use the bag whole.

If they are clean they would probably be accepted but those things are products that must had cost you some good money.
