Here'a an aricle about the subject from 1997. In Detroit that year 71% of all babies born were born to single mothers. Nationwide it was 32%, and has undoubtedly risen in the last 10 years.

I don't see a problem with it. I wasn't married to my husband when I had my first child and was with my second. My parents weren't married when they had me and they got married later and are now divorced. There are some people who have children with others that just CAN'T be a couple and shouldn't. Divorce can be very hard on children and if their parents can't get along then they shouldn't be forced into marriage or taught that it's the right thing to do. If both parents aren't happy the kids will notice and it will affect them. It affected me and I wish to this day that my parents never got married.

I would say that it isn't the status of the parents that are a factor in our sociiety. I know that some children are better off when a situation is that they have created a baby. marrage is never an answer to pregnancy.

my duaghter had situation where she wasn't married. the fother and her knew it wasn't right time for them to be a legally married couple. instead they worked together and a year and half later they did get engaged. have been married 2 years.

so percentage of children to non married woman.... ????
who cares... what is best for child si best.

best is to not take the chance of it being single parent but instead wait til you are in a marriage. but to look down on anyone that is single parent. for any reason isn't right either

It is higher and higher everyday, and for alot of people it is more acceptable now-a-days because women no longer DEPEND on a man to take care of her, let alone a child.

A lot but why does it matter? My husband and I got engaged, had two unplanned children and then got married a few months ago.

i'd say 97% nowadays...and it's frowned upon in the christian religion or in any religion having to do with the holy father.but if you arent a follower and dont believe in God then it doesn't matter to you.
