So Im about 9 weeks prego and my body is going nuts. Ive been cutting back on my smoking cause I read in my book ( the universal what to expect...) that if you quit by the 3rd month you should be ok. My thing is Im trying so hard! Ive been a smoker for 6 years and Ive prided myself on how far Ive come. Now that I'm at the quitting date that my husband and I set my emotions and such are going haywire. Nothing I eat doesnt make me nauseous and when Im starving nothing sounds good, I hope you can imagine what Im putting my poor husband through. Last time I was prego, same thing happened when I tried to quit, when I did there was no way I could win with my body. Sometimes I just dont feel like smoking but when I do there is no end to the misery. So my question is this: Since I've cut down dramatically should I just continue with the backout process or I'll take any other suggestions. Thanks!

I would still quit. Your body will go through some with drawl symptoms, but its worth it. Believe me we all put our men through h*ll at some point.

Good luck.

Dont put so much pressure on yourself to quit. That will make it harder. Im 32 weeks preg. and i smoked about 2 packs a day before pregnancy and now im smoke about 2 cigs a day. I have tried setting dates to quit and everything but nothing helped. All i could do was cut back as much as i could. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

I know it is hard - with my first two I had no choice but to quit because it made me sick to even think about it. The funny thing is - that is the only thing that made me sick - no morning sickness etc. But with my third, I kept waiting for it to make me sick and it never did. I already had 2 kids and such a busy hectic life that smoking kept me sane. My Dr. said just try to keep it at 5 a day. Only smoke at certain times or in certain places and before long it will be too much of a hassle to smoke at all.
Here I am pregnant again( 5 weeks) and about to go through it too. I just hope this one makes me sick - it is soooo much easier when it does.
Good luck!

I would just quit, I know easier said then done and yes I have been there before. Just keep as busy as possible and constantly remind your self who you are doing this for. I quit smoking before I became pregnant to make it easier for me and the baby. I quit cold turkey and found that once I made it to the third day, I knew I could get through it. The first few days are the worst but I carried around a little pacifier with me to remind myself of the very important reasons for me to quit. Every time I wanted to smoke I would play with that pacifier, its corny, but it helped. Also, if you can change some of your routines that helps a lot too. If you smoke when you drive, chew gum instead. If you smoke after you eat, go for a walk instead. Changing habits can be key. Also, this is none of my business, but why start up again. I still want a cig every now and then, but I never want to go through quitting again, so I won't ever smoke again.

I read Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It even contains the exercises you need to practice. I also read The Brewer Medical Diet for Normal and High-Risk Pregnancy. I followed the Brewer diet when I was pregnant. I used the Bradley method with all four of my births. I also read Husband Coached Childbirth, but that book does not contain what you need to practice to get ready for birth.

I smoked for 8 years. When I found out I was pregnant, I quit. Cold Turkey. I have never been so damn proud of myself, ever. I had tried to quit so many times in the past. I know how it is. I just thought that every time I smoked my baby did too. My son has no way to walk out of the room, tell me to stop, tell me that he can't breathe.....I just decided that I was not going to be the reason for my son having any problems. If he is born with problems, it was meant to be that way. I just know that I will not be the reason that my son had to suffer, because I was being selfish. The first 3 months is when ALL of your baby's organs, heart, brain, kidneys, liver (everything) is forming. In the first 3 months is when you are most likely going to have a miscarriage because of your smoking. Think of your child. Think of him breathing in nothing but BAD air. You will be so proud of yourself. I am.

I quit smoking when i was pregnant. Mainly cuz it can cause miscarriage and low birth weight. And it's healthy for the baby and me. I would quit if i was you. And if you cain't take it just think its only nine months. Every woman i know that smokes has a small baby. one even has a heart deffect and she smoked allot. she thought if she just went to lights it would help but nope cuz then she smoked twice as much.

im not saying its good to smoke while your pregnant, but dont stress yourself out trying to quit, it could be worse for the baby. My sister has 4 kids and smoked with all of them, and she had twins. her children are fine. but she has quit smoking now. I just found out I am pregnant and will probably quit. my first 2 i smoke for the first month, then after that it made me throw up, so I quit until after the baby was 3 months old. I know i know stupid choice to start again. but try to quit, if you can just cut down. good luck

I may gret yelled at for this answer but I didn't stop till my body made it almost impossble to smoke, which happened at about 6months preggers. Your doctor will tell you to stop now but in my opinion you stop when your body tells you to. That way you won't have all the withdraw syptoms as bad.
