Haley 's comet appeared in 1986. Haley's comet comes by earth every 76 years. It will come again in 2061.
Halley's Comet (shown below) is perhaps the most known in the world. It is visible to us without aid of a telescope every 76 years. It was last near Earth in 1986 and space probes were sent to take a closer look. One space probe passed within 600 km of the comet's nucleus and the photographs it sent back show violent jets of gas and dust erupting from a dark potato-shaped nucleus just 15 km long and 8 km wide. Haley's Comet will be back in 2061. A comet can only last for several thousand circuits of the Sun before its store of energy is exhausted and it fades away.
I did find some websites that said the year would be 2062.

Halley's Comet, officially designated 1P/Halley and also referred to as Comet Halley after Edmond Halley, is a comet that can be seen every 75-76 years. It is the most famous of all periodic comets. Although in every century many long-period comets appear brighter and more spectacular, Halley is the only short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye, and thus, the only naked-eye comet which can return within a human lifetime.[2] Its appearances over the centuries have been noticed to coincide with many notable events in human history, despite the fact that they were not recognized as the same object until the 17th century. Halley's Comet last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986, and will next appear in mid 2061.

According to my Casio astronomical wrist watch Comet Halley last appeared on 10 April 1986 and will show up again on 29 July 2061. I guess these are the exact dates the comet is closer to the Sun.

Halley's [HAL-lee] Comet has been know since at least 240 BC and possibly since 1059 BC. Its most famous appearance was in 1066 AD when it was seen right before the Battle of Hastings. It was named after Edmund Halley, who calculated its orbit. He determined that the comets seen in 1531 and 1607 were the same object that followed a 76-year orbit. Unfortunately, Halley died in 1742, never living to see his prediction come true when the comet returned on Christmas Eve 1758.
