Those are "level 3" meals. level 1 is where you just have to heat it up. level 2 is where you have to add some water. level 3 you actually have to figure out how to cook some meat. and level 4 is real food.

Well the 'helper' company has done the majority of the work for you--and hopefully you add a salad or vegetables to the meal. It definitely beats take out or delivery.
A true homemade meal would be like making a roast, a lasagna, even barbequing chicken or hamburgers. You would also make the side dishes yourself (salads, potatoes, rice, vegetables, dessert, etc.)

Yes it's still homemade because you still have to spend the time at home making it. Ground beef doesn't cook itself you know. Besides, on the occasions that I've had to cook a meal quickly I still take the time to fry some onions with the ground beef and I always add frozen peas to it too.
As far as shake and bake goes I find it just as quick to mix some flour and seasoning together and dous the meat in it and throw in the oven since warming up the oven takes as long as it takes to make the seasoning mix.

Yes and no. They are a great way to start if you don't know how to cook, but they don't always have the best ingredients for you health-wise, like fats, salt, sugar and preservatives. If you make your own homemade chicken cutlets, then you control how much salt, how much parsely, how much oil, which kind of chicken, like light or dark, skin or no skin. If you made a homemade meal of chicken cutlets and mashed potatoes, you'd like it so much that you'd never go back to the packed stuff!
See easy recipes below. Get your greens: add a simple salad of romaine lettuce and ripe red tomatoes. Get cooking!

Hamburger Helper is an additive to meat. It's not a meal in itself. Plus it tastes and looks like crap.

I consider anything I put together for dinner in my home "homemade". Doesn't matter whether I got the noodles and spices from my cabinet or if someone else did that part of the work for me.

No, I consider them something in between food and garbage. Personally I'd rather just have the hamburger and make burgers. All those preservatives and artificial ingredients scare me.

It's not homemade, but I'll allow it to be called half home cooked, because you do have to add things to it and cook it up with some attention.
