choppy. like every 2 senconds the video freezes and sound continues. my computer used to play videos fine. only now it's not, so i know it's not my processor or ram

as I said, my pc with the same hardware used to run video fine. I've sorta found half the solution. there was a process running in error using up all my resources. when I stopped the process the video quality got a lot better but still not as good as it used to be.
I think it's time to get a new cpu/motherboard and get some ddr ram instead

Find an older version of the driver for your video card. Select one that was released not too far after your device was released. These universal drivers evolve to support the higher tricked out function of the newer cards. If you have an older video card, you may not need the newest driver to make your card run smoothly. I often install the newest Nvidia drivers when they come out, only to uninstall them because an older version works better. For instance, I run a 6800 and couple of 6200 Nvidia cards in my home PC's. Nvidia stopped trying to specialize the new drivers for my cards a couple of years ago. Since then its all been about the 7000 series, linking two cards together, turbo cache, and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't apply to my cards.

It's also a good idea to make sure that you have reinstalled your computer's motherboard chipset drivers.

Also, make sure that you have the newest version of DirectX 9 installed. Good luck.
