I've heard that there's private torrent sites that you need an invitation to join and that these sites have really fast speeds for seeding. Is this just a myth?

Torrent speeds depend on several aspects. The main issues are the ammount of people seeding (sending it out not downloading) the torrent compared to the ammount of people leeching (downloading an uploading) and the ammount you upload. Some torrent trackers keep track of how much you upload and throttle your download because of that, also pick torrents with higher seeding ratios.
There are private sites but those just like any other site can be over run by leechers who suck up the bandwidth from the swarm (everyone uploading/downloading). To get into these you need to be in a position of trust with the person running it or someone who trusts you and can convince the operator. This is usually hard.

It is near impossible to watch movies online for free or at least is safe and virus free as there are server costs and such that need to be paid and they have to make money somehow to pay them. Allot of the free sites do so nefariously to pay them.

just a myth for fast ehh, all depeneds on if the computer is on and has there sharning program running.
All kinds of torrents around but if that one file u have is just on one computer and that computer is not up hmmmm
