You asked why...
It's because you have told Microsoft Word to reveal hidden characters. The dots between every word show where there is a space. When you print, those dots don't show. The purpose of revealed code is to help with formatting, because it shows every hard line break, and tab. When there is some kind of printing problem, when you can see these hidden elements, it is easier to correct. Revealing code provides flexibility and maximum control over your documents.

you probably somehow told Word to do that. it just shows how many spaces you have between each word. if you want to get rid of them, go to tools, options, and choose "display" or something similar and then uncheck the box for "spaces". if you have office 2007, click on the button at the top left corner, choose word options, and then display, and then uncheck "spaces".
