Where did the term "Straight" come from?

If heterosexuals are "Straight" does that imply that homosexuals are "Crooked"?

How does using derogatory labels affect the way people perceive homosexuals?

For example "gay" is a derogatory label because it promotes stereotypes of homosexuals. The def of gay is:

1 a : happily excited : MERRY b : keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits
2 a : BRIGHT, LIVELY b : brilliant in color
3 : given to social pleasures; also : LICENTIOUS

Is "bent" any better than "crooked"?

straight in that they don't deviate from the 'straight and narrow'.
Derogatory terms lead to a continuum of perceived stereotypes.

it is a slang thing.. like *****.. which really means a bundle of twigs.. or to the English a cig...why don't homosexuals tell us what term to use.. like the black people they let us know in no uncertain terms.. that the n word is something not to use.. instead we are told to use African American or black..straight people really don't know any other term than gay or homosexual.. but now that i think of it where does the term homosexual come from and heterosexual.. it is all a label we place on people.. like red neck...personally i would rather be around 1000 homosexual people than 1 red neck,, btw i am straight
