most people dont know it but windows is regestered to the computer the name is just bc the computer is regestered to you. there for i would format and reinstall windows and give it to him with a fresh install so none of your information is on there and he will be able to get updates just fine

When I sell my computers I delete all of my windows partitions and install a linux distribution (usually UBUNTU). This gives the buyer an up to date OS with a disk.

Might want to take off the hard drive altogether, because when you sell it theres a chance they might be able to recover anything you have ever done on the computer. Besides hard drives are not that expensive nowadays.

Take the HD out. If you can find a cheap one toss it in. Its pretty easy to restore what you deleated. Its the best way to protect yourself.

You can leave it on, but (there is always a but) the new owner won't be able to get upgrades without your info you supplied when you registered it.

it is normal to leave the O/S system there, having deleted personal software, as the new user needs the O/S intact to boot the system, upon purchase...........

think about it this way
if you bought a 2nd hander and brought it home, plugged it all in, turned it on and saw this

would you be inpressed

format the drive(so your old data is gone)
reinstall that old copy of windows 98se
and throw it in with the sale of the pc

its like selling a car with no engine
