I am trying to get promoted in my job. I am trying to be very productive and be the best employee. I am thinking about changing my look for a more professional look. Will I stand out to my managers if I wear more business attire and wear make-up. Will they see that I do deserve more money and a promotion?

I am in the downtown corporate environment. We can't wear jeans and if we do wear jeans we have to wear our company shirt. If I loose weight, buy new clothes, and wear make up will that make me stand out to my employers?

The rule of thumb is dress for the job you want, not the job you have. It definitely makes a difference to an employer if you look professional and your coworker is wearing jeans and a halter top.

It sucks but the reality is looks matter (plenty of studies around where pretty people get promoted first over other equally competent workers).

Maybe if you dress more corporate you will feel more confident and better about yourself which could also make you stand out more.

your chances of promotion should depend on your job performance. unless you dress like a street thug, there should not be an overriding emphasis on clothing, although neat appropriate attire would certainly create a better visual impression of you. hopefully you do not work for a boss who wants you to look like barbie and sit on his lap, in which case i would be considering another job, not a promotion.

That would help... But it all depends on what is your job status, what is it that you do? Well good luck
