I am very much confused about the relationship between billion and million

1 billion = 1000 million ?

1 billion = 100 million ?

which one in the above is correct ?

so as you say . i billion = 1000 million......i agree

BUT when i see a calculation in a book i found this...

1.176 billion = 117.6 million
is not it wrong ?

i am bit confused here whether the book is a mistake in printing or i am conceptually wrong

Take the words and put them into numbers:

1 billion = 1,000,000,000 (9 zeros)

Because 1 billion has (3) more zeros than 1 million:
