Emergency contraception, also known as "the morning after pill", can prevent pregnancy after having unprotected sex. It can be taken up to 5 days after having sex to reduce the risk of pregnancy, but the risk of pregnancy is reduced by 75-89 percent if it is taken within 72 hours.

The EC pill contains hormones that are also found in the birth control pill and prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation or fertilization. It will NOT cause an abortion or affect an existing pregnancy.

Taking the EC pill will cause nausea in about 50% of the women who take it. Other side effects may include breast tenderness, irregular bleeding, dizziness, or headaches.

Taking the pill regulates your period and stops you from getting pregnant, if you take it correctly. Some girls experience weight gain, tender breasts etc, but nothing too serious
