DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT "I THINK"? or what religious BOOKS say?
What I think WILL OFFEND YOU so you better be able to accept my answer.

I think the HolyGhost is not of God. I think the HolyGhost is a lost soul entering the body of a living human for a temperary period of time; whether it be for a moment or longer and I don't think there is anything HOLY about it. That is what "I THINK"

I've always thought of the Holy Ghost as a kind of transitional state between God and Christ - or Non-Being and Being. I realize that's probably mixing Eastern thought into an otherwise Western question - but I think there's value in bringing as much information to the table as possible.

The Holy Ghost is less of a who or what and more of a where or how. Or maybe some kind of transformational marker.

By the way - the link below goes to a page that doesn't necessarily back up my thinking on this - but it got the gears turning for me.

That link to wikipedia given in the first answer answers the question well but as one who was born and raised a catholic I always had a problem with that term. Casper the Friendly Ghost comes to mind as does Space Ghost and Ghost Busters if you're over 25. Holy Spirit is a better word for it for no other reason than it sounds a little classier. I believe it means the spiritual side of God but I'm not sure what that means. I have read that this whole concept of the trinity as it's called was the reason for many breaks with the catholic church in centuries past.

The holy ghost is the third person in the trinity

1. The Father

2. The Son

3. And the Holy Ghost and these three are one

The Holy Spirit is also called our comfoter, and is refered to as the spirit of God.

The spirit of God gives us discernment to avoid trouble and to know whenwe are doing a wrong.

Below is a link to a textbook definition, which, from a traditional Christian perspective is the third entity in the Trinity, which describes God as Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Are you looking for something different than a textbook definition?

I think of the Holy Ghost as the entity that bridges the gap between the spiritual and the secular.

The holy spirit is the communication link between God and those who are choosing to see themselves as bodys, or as human beings.

This link was created at the moment of the fall by God to assure that no soul would be lost.

While i am not "christian", my understanding, and experience indicates to me that "the holy spirit" is the actual *experienceable* divine energy emitted/sent/shared by divinity, of any persuasion, which aids in healing and uplifting someone. One book i've found helpful in this area which would aid someone to have "the experience" is *Gnosis of the Cosmic Christ* by T. Malachi, published by Llewellyn. It's not an "easy read", but the knowledge and practices made available are worth the effort :-))

JESUS said: "There is so much more I want to tell you. I will come again. I will speak to you plainly." All who seek the Truth can find it.

The Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit or the Spirits of Truth and Light are our ascended brothers-in-spirit who are far advanced over any human still here on earth. Because of their higher development, they have been tasked by God to assist us in our own journey toward spiritual perfection.

Have you ever read the Tao-te-Ching or the Vedanta literature? The belief in Tao and "Brahman" is very similar to the belief in the Holy Spirit. Although the Semitic belief is closer: it views the Holy Spirit as both a personal and impersonal reality. It is a kind of angelic guardian and a power that fills those whom God is pleased with. Seek to please God through the good-pleasure of his servants. When we live in line with His wishes, we find that Spirit in our lives. Every religion has its own beliefs about the reality, try to find one that best enables you to live in it--then stick to it.
