People are ignorant... thats the problem...
You are not supposed to put formula in bottles with cereal...
It is ok to feed cereal mixed with formula by spoon...
Putting Cereal and formula in bottle will NOT make your baby sleep longer... its just an old wives tale...
And what really gets me is when people put Kool Aid and sugar water in the bottle... that floored me when I was in nursing school... people can be so ignorant!
Have a great day!

I'm assuming you mean adding ot the bottle. The only time that is okay is if the baby has acid reflux and the doctor tells you too. Other than that it's never okay. Doctors, feeding specialists, and the cereal makers say not to do it. Rice cereal can be introduced anywhere from 4-6 months depending on if the baby is ready for it, and should be fed by a spoon only.

Moms have been putting infant cereal into their baby's bottle of formula for years. Some believe it helps baby to go a little longer between feedings, especially at night. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against putting cereal in a bottle. Here is good website I found discussing the practice, why people do it and why it is not a good idea http://www.drgreene.com/21_861.html.

Every baby is different, start with that. Mine was eating 4 ounces every 2-3 hours at 2 weeks old and had it in his bottle because it satisfied him longer. The other one had reflux so it helped him to keep the formula down. For every 4 ounces of milk add half a scoop of cereal (without fruit). I did it in the morning and at night because it kept them full and happy and didn't hurt a thing. Ultimately it's your choice and it's really a matter of opinion. No matter what others say, they are not going to go that much longer without eating, it just keeps them satisfied, and they WON'T miss out on all the nutrients because they are still getting the same amount of formula as recommended. They just get to stay full for an extra half an hour.

Because people believe it will make their baby sleep longer even though studies repeatedly prove otherwise.
And afterall tonnes of moms did it in the past and we're all fine right? I mean we don't have an epidemic of obesity and diabetes which are a proven side effect of early introduction to solids.
Then again if people would breastfeed maybe we wouldn't have this problem. Because I sure as heck haven't figured out where you add the cereal to my boob.

always check with your doctor before doing the cereal thing... also make sure to use the proper nipples for the bottle that will allow the cereal to flow through the nipple... theyre fast flow i think(a larger hole) the doctor will be your best bet on when to add the cereal... it fills the baby up so hes/shes not up every 2-3hrs. wanting to eat...and mom and baby can get some rest...

Beacause they are selfish. They think it will help the baby sleep longer because they get more full. Unfortunately, they don't realize that when the baby eats less frequently (because of the cereal added to their formula) he/she misses out on all the nutrients from that (missed) feeding.

The belief is that the cereal helps fill up the baby, thus eliminating a feeding or two. I tried it once or twice and it didn't help, so I didn't bother with it.

Because they think it will keep baby full for longer time than just formula or breast milk. But it is only an old wives tale, it doesn't work. My sons doctor said that their little stomach gets empty after 4 hours no matter what is in it.

It's a myth that cereal in the formula will help a child sleep better at night.
