I had a baby 6 weeks ago, and i want to know how long after giving birth you have to wait to have sex. It was a vaginal birth, w/o any complications. I dont remember if it is that I have to wait 6 weeks after, or if i have to wait until i see my ob/gyn at my 6 week appt. i dont see him until the 26th

It's usually 6 weeks. But if you gave natural birth I would wait until you go to your 6 week check up so that he can inform you that you have properly healed.

the official line is after your 6 wk check. but honestly, if you are feeling well, take it easy and gently and you should be ok. I have had 5 vaginal births and never waited for the 6 wk check. After child one we waited 4 weeks, the shortest wait was 2 weeks after child 3, that was honestly a bit early and hurt me quite a bit, not during so much as after. 4 weeks has never been a problem for me. I think what I have read from some more natural remedy types of doctors is when you are feeling ok and the blood flow has passed/slowed to nearly nothing. Good luck.

Rule of thumb is to wait until your uterus has had time to heal/ return to normal. Most OB/GYN recommend at least 6-8 weeks post delivery. That's intercourse, and doesn't rule out other forms of pleasuring. Just avoid penetration.

Wait until you have your 6 week check up and the doctor will let you know if it's ok or not.

6 weeks is the general rule, but they say if you feel ready you can give it a go. I think the doctor likes to see you before you have sex again but they cannot make you wait. Also "Vladkiesa" you say if you are breastfeeding you cannot get pregnant for 6 months...that is not true, there are many many many women who get pregnant again becuase they use the "breast feeding as contraception" method.

I have always heard 6 weeks. This is about the time you should be going in for your female follow up exam so if the Dr. says everything is good........get out that cute little nighty and enjoy the man in your life!

To be EXTRA safe you should wait until you see your doc. But if you do decide to go ahead and do it before then just make sure that you have some extra lubrication especially if you are breastfeeding because that can tend to make you a lot drier than usual. Good luck and have fun! ;)
