God led the Iraelites on their exodus from Egypt. A cloud during the day and fire at night. God's presence filled the temple that Soloman built as a dark cloud. If God is in the cloud following you then you need to change directions and follow God.

The black cloud was sent to the people of Ad. When the Ad saw this cloud, forming in the air like a cloud, they thought it was a rain cloud but it was a cloud of punishment. They thought it was a mercy but it was an affliction. They hoped it was good and hoped it would be the end of their drought. The punishment that befell them was from the violent wind which passed over them for seven nights and eight days, and not one of them remained. They resembled the roots of palm trees which had no tops because the wind came to each one of them and carried them up into the air, then it turned them on the top of their heads and shattered them, leaving a trunk without a head.
