I thought Women's Studies was looking at how gender affects different aspects in society. Why then is this forum all about constantly insulting and denigrating females? In fact some of it is pretty sick.

OMG: SOMEBODY WITH A BRAIN IS HERE!!!! By that I don't mean to say that no one on this forum has intellect, but no one thus far has articulated this problem so succinctly and directly as you. Your observation is completely correct: that's exactly what happens on this forum. Boys/men (and even some women) whine whine whine incessantly...about anything and everything REAL or NOT. It's obvious that the cranks haven't got even the most rudimentary background in the social sciences, they don't care, they make it up as they go along
and/or get their 'information' from the likes of People Magazine or from other cranks - with web pages! It feels like combat with an unarmed opponent: what they lack in intellect they make up for by BULLYING. When they sense they are losing the argument badly they have no hesitiation in resorting to name-calling like children on a playground. Last resort? Denounce your opponent as a LESBIAN. The word 'feminist' is used as a slur. The sense of entitlement some of these guys have is shocking. The root of the problem - I think - is that the behavior has now become deeply ingrained. They have been bullying for soooo long and getting away with it. Wild animals are most dangerous when cornered.

Alexandra is basically right on the money.

Look at the actual topics. Read the ones the have the word "feminist" or "feminism" in them.

See how the men reply and how the women reply.

You should be able to spot the feminists from their reactions to the questions. Since they tend to be outspoken, and since people ask questions mainly about feminism, this board is cluttered with it.

Besides, "Women's Studies?" That's going to be controversial right there because people have different view points on

A) What women are doing
B) What women should be doing
and C) If or to what extent women were/are oppressed.

Different view points results in debate; this is the internet so you'll see more heated comments than you might in real life.

I believe it is because of the worst part of mislead feminism, which is manifesting reverse discrimination in a relationship with an otherwise good man. Men who have experienced it themselves will usually resent feminism intensely and will lament to their thoughtful friends about it during their hiatus from dating; hence effecting their views too. It may even cause an "allergic" reaction to irritating (but normal) behavior of women that would otherwise have been blown off or kept in perspective. The same can happen to women who've been burned, but the manifestation is different.

Well said, I agree. Gender bashing is for children, not fully grown adults who really ought to know better!

HTH : )

Hey, "Tanks" here are some examples of women bashing...looks like I beat your sad little list. Note that NONE of these even mention "feminism," they ALL specify women...in the context of ALL women. "'Women' are crazy, nutty, gullible, shallow, vain, not as 'advanced,' not worthy of equal rights"...AND I didn't even have to stray outside of women's studies for the most part...if I did I'm sure I would find many more. BTW, two of your three examples weren't necessarily about "men bashing" but about women who have "issues" with men and realize it's a problem...AND they want to change! Oh, those evil, unrepentant male bashers! Open your eyes, kid, you're fooling yourself.

There are some very 'sad' chauvinsitic individuals out in cyberspace who are very angry at women and are misognystic and they like to pour out their venom here. And it's not just men, it's women too.

Yes this space should be a space where you can discuss women's issues together in a mature adult way.

Funny I was going to ask: what's with the men bashing?

Most of the time women are not bashed against, only feminists are.

There is also a lot of male bashing read those questions:

I don't see so much women bashing as feminist bashing. There's a bit of a difference there. ;)
