I read a lot and sometimes when movies are made from books I have read they are awful.

First of all, turning really good books into movies is wrong. It just gives the lazy ppl out there another reason not to read. On the other hand, it encourages the good authors not to write any more. Any way, Tom Clancy writes good books which turns into great movies. Other books, Lord of The Rings, Fight Club, Half-Life, The Davinci Code, ...

I recommend you to read the book first and then watch the movie. Many parts from the book are missing in the movies to make them around one hour which makes the movie less exciting.

To be honest I dread it when they make good books in to movies because many times the movies are a very poor reflection upon the book *cough*TheScarletLetter*cough*. If I was forced to choose I would pick Larklight by Philip Reeves. It's a very unique story with fun characters, pirates, action, and aliens. It's like Victorian London meets Sci-fi. It's targeted more at children so I am not sure it counts as a novel but still.

The books are always better than the movie. The General's Wife was compltely botchedc up for example. I think Angelas Ashes was equally good to one another. Loved the movie.

The first thing that popped in my mind was the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings. And it's not because I'm huge on fantasy or anything, I'm really not. But you have to admit that those were damn good movies.

"A Time to Kill" the book was awesome, and the movie was excellent as well, although some things were changed (like the defense's closing argument at the end of the movie) and, of course, omitted.
