I suppose if they were a new band coming through now, yes they would. They would score on being emotional and being hardcore which is allegedly the criteria for being emo.

It's just with hindsight that we can say no way, but if you're new, you'll always be compared to someone who's been along before you or some scene that's already on the go. Similarly, wouldn't My Chemical Romance be dismissed as grunge had they been around 15 years ago?

Great question by the way!

hmmm naw whilst i think of emo i think of the crimson Jumpsuit equipment, Dashboard Confessional, My Chemical Romance, bands like that. They sound no longer something like Nirvana. specific their music isn't cheery yet i might label below grunge and hardcore rock

AFI is not Emo, they are modern industrial rock, and Nirvana would NOT be classified as Emo if they were around today. Emo is Dashboard Confessional.....

you cant tell what nirvana would be like if they were still around today, they might have completely changed their style... their stuff was grunge though, not emo... my sister thinks their emo because kurt cobain killed himself, but as i pointed out; emos are the ones that cut themselves for attention, kurt cobain wanted to die, he didnt want attention... so no their stuff isnt classed as emo, but if they were still going then who knows what style music they could have morphed into, maybe even drum and bass *giggles* :) Dont get me wrong ... i love nirvana <3
