So i have my first appointment in a couple days.. on the 21st. I was just wondering what exactly do they do during the first visit.. Will they take blood? I have a big fear of needles but i already know i'll have to get over that one fast and get used to it. Also, is there anything i can do about morning sickness. Crackers arent helping and at work i just feel horrible. i have a bag just ready because i dont feel like i'll make it to the bathroom!

Aww you poor thing, well cereal helped me. You need to keep eating, NEVER let your stomach get empty you will feel horrible. Plus if you do vomit having food in your stomach makes the heeving less painful(sorry if that's graphic). Chewing gum helped me. You could even try hard candy. Stay away from strong odors. And try to avoid spicy and or fried foods.

As for your first visit, yes they will take blood, they have to screen you for tests. You have alot of dr visits ahead of you, but you'll be fine. They will listen to the baby's heart beat take your vitals, and talk to you about any concersn you may have.

Unfortunately, there is no sure fire cure to morning sickness. Take comfort in that your nausea means that your baby is thriving. You might want to try pretzels for your nausea. The salt helped me. Also, don't get out of bed before you nibble on a pretzel, cracker or something like that. This will allow your body to settle alittle before rising. As far as the checkups go, you will have to give blood for many tests over the next 9 months. I don't like needles either but it is just the way it has to be. Keep your thoughts positive and remember why you are going through all this...you are going to be a mommy!! Congratulations :)

Just a hint about 1st thing in the morning. Have the crackers by your bed and eat them before you even attempt to get up. It's the motion of getting up that generally sets you off. If you think you can handle yogurt after you get up - try it before you go to work. Also - eat an apple when you are feeling nauseous - they really do help.

The blood work will have to be done but they generally just test your hemoglobin after the first visit (the poke in the finger or ear lobe).

Trying sucking on Jolly Ranchers when you feel sick. They have helped a lot for me. The sweet and sour taste helps take away the feeling of nausea. It doesn't always help, but it does sometimes. Also try drinking ginger ale. It seems to help also. Eat at least ever 2 hours and that will help you from getting sick from hunger. I have my first visit on the 23rd. I can't remember what they did for on my last first visit for my son. Sorry. Good luck!!

The doctors check height weight, take blood. Depending on where you are they will confirm the pregnancy with a sonogram. As for morning sickness, just never let your stomach get empty, it will get better.
