If you love seafood go for it, it's so fresh and delicious prepared. My personal favorites are 'gambas' (shrimp), and 'lagosta' (lobster). On the meat side, the beef is great as well. 'Bife a Portuguesa' (Cube steak) is delicious and served with rice, french fries, and a fried egg. It's yummy! For dessert try 'flan' (custard), 'arroz doce' (rice pudding), 'malasadas', (dough boys/fried dough). The service is pretty good and people are pleasant.

Remember these rules of thumb:
1. Learn common Portuguese words and phrases, people will be flattered you are trying to communicate in their language, some simple terms:

Desculpa-me: Excuse me
Ola: Hello
Oi: Hi
Quanto costa?: How much does this cost?
Obrigado: Thank You
De Nada: You're Welcome

2: Don't speak Spanish, or compare Portuguese to Spanish. The languages are actually pretty different and Portuguese people hate that!

Happy and safe travels!

They have a huge variety of foods, it all depends on your taste......if it's fish you like then they have the best recipes in the world my favorite is "bacalhau" cod, or salt fish........if it's meat you like they have the best, and healthiest meat in the world, they also have great variety of cheese, most of the restaurants in the major ciites you will have no problem with the language, almost everyone know a little English.......
