I am really sad, although I am pretty new to HP, I only started reading it since 2001.
But I am getting into The Lord of the Rings, which is a classic!!!, you have got to check it out.

You know, it is a pretty entertaining series, and it will be sad when it ends. I don't quite have as strong of feelings about it as you do, though; I've only really felt that strongly about The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yes, all three books had been out for a long time before I read them (I'm almost 19), but I hated when I finished the books. It was like cutting out a little piece of my soul; fortunately, that's why we can reread books; it will never be the same experience, but it will help. As for other books, I don't know if you'll find any that make you feel the same way as HP, but I also like The Heritage of Shannara series by Terry Brooks; the first book is called The Scions of Shannara. After HP and LOTR, this is probably the best fantasy series I've found. The Dark Towers series was already mentioned; it starts out strong, but it starts getting rather strange after awhile; the 4th book is all backstory, and the 5th-7th are just plain weird. The ending also disappointed many people, but it's worth reading the first three books at the very least. (The Stand is better, but it's not a fantasy story)
I don't know if you're a video game person, and this may sound silly...Final Fantasy X for the PS2 gave me the same feeling as HP did for you. Seriously, there is such an involved storyline, and because it's a video game, you actually feel like you're a part of it. I was rather sad when it was all over...:(
Good luck finding new reading material.

If you enjoyed the Harry Potter Series, you might just like the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. There are seven books in this series, also.
Tracey Harding books are very good also. She has the Ancient Future Series. She is an author from New Zealand, but you should be able to order her books on-line.
I am almost 55 years old, but have loved "Harry" since the first book came out. I will relish the last installment. At the present time, I am trying to find all of the books in the series, in hard backs.

I guess the logical step is to move into full 'fantasy' series.
Well there's the classic Lord of the Rings series. A little difficult to get into, but well worth the effort - at the very least you should read The Hobbit.
Other series:
Eragon - only two books so far, but a good series.
Belgariad - about ten books in the series - not a bad 'starter' fantasy series.
The Thomas Covenant series - a lot darker than HP but good.
Any of the 'Dragon Riders' series - pretty good.
Any of the Shannara series - a little like Lord of the Rings, but easier to read.
Some fun series:
Any novels in the Xanth series - very funny.
Any of the Terry Pratchett series of books.
You're not going to find a series with the same feel as HP as it really does cross a couple of different Genres - but the above are interesting if you like the 'adventure' and 'fantasy' side of HP.

I love this series too. It's amazing how I have never felt so attached to books like I do these. The key must be all the details and feeling as if you know the people and you are right there with them plus the plot. I haven't found any books that are as entrancing as these have been, but I have come close. There is the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson that is very good. It is a younger version of his other books When the Wind Blows and its sequel The Lake House of which I have both read. Although, they will never be as sacred as the Harry Potter books, they are pretty good and are definitely Worth reading.

I agree! I also grew up with Harry Potter, and I'll cry when I read that last word. The nice thing about these books is that although there'll NEVER be a series like it ever again, you'll notice things when you re-read them. For example, once we meet Mundugus for the 1st time, we think we never heard of him before. But Mr.Weasley mentions him early in the second book. He gets home, and says he was sooo busy, and he says Mundugus was causing trouble! You'll never finish finding the symbolism. I strongly suggest reading the series again. And again.
Wah! I'll miss you, Harry!

ERAGON and ELDEST are really great books! The movie is nothing like the book so don't judge the book by that. Charlie Bone books by Jenny Nimmo and Artemis Fowl book are pretty good but they're kind of elementary. Lord of the Rings is great too! It's a lot more mature than the HP books. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is really good. Any books by her you may enjoy. The Neverending Story is really good if you just need a novel to read.

YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT! i am really, really, really sad that the final book is coming out. i honestly hope that the last book is about a foot thick. no, i do noy have any suggestions because nothing can compare to harry potter! if youve finished them, read them again, and again, and again! thats what i did. of course i read some other books, like narnia and lord of the rings, but they are nothing, and i mean NOTHING compared to the bible, ahem, i mean harry potter. by the way, have you ever heard of fanfiction? there are some really good ones that i love to read between harry potter books. fanfiction.net is a great fanfiction site for harry potter (they have 200,000 + stories). of course, some of them are really crappy, but there are lots of really good ones too. also, this is a great way to guess what will happen in the next book or see how something that you know jk will never write about will turn out. some nice ones are take my heart away by hatusu, ten ways to kill draco malfoy, change of heart, once upon a thyme, and lots and lots more. please read fanfiction, you'd be doing yourself a favor.
