i have recieved many forwards which say that so and so has such and such problem, usually a disease, and that they will receive money every time someone forwards that email. i would like to know if there emails are for real, or am i wasting my time forwarding them. Also i would like to know how the email services keep track of such mails, coz there must b millions of them.

Naah! not at all baby...delete them straight away...they are just spammers making their way into all the world's Inboxes.
Get genuine emails instead from your friends if somehow asking for some help (I mean genuinely).

Email protocols do not support tracking an email in that way. The most you can do is request a "read" or "delivery" receipt.
As for the particulars of the "ill person" email, I recommend checking Snopes or one of the other debunking type websites. You should be able to search for a couple sentences from the email and they can match it for authentication. Email can't be tracked as a "chain" so they will not generate money to go toward a person. I recommend either deleting or if you know the sender, give them a referral link to where the message is debunked. Messages like those are adding to the congestion of email traffic.

E-mail scams/spams delete them. There is no logic behind such e-mail transactions. Mail services normally donot keep track of them as they are forwarded by legitimate users like you! So, the scammer only once has to enter your mail box, rest is easy.. you will do the dirty job for him!! and by this the message spreads and clogs the server space and wastes your valuable time by making the system slow. You can help by blocking the sender and reporting them as spam.

no it never is it is a way for people to collect hunderds of e-mail addresses easily so they can send out spam mail
