Taipei is Taiwan's capital city. It is an enormous city, and if you are planning a visit, it may be a good idea to check out some things about it before you arrive. There are many sites that can tell you about Taipei, and when you arrive, there are some great tourist maps that will show you where the best things to see and do are. If you are traveling here, you will find the foreigners (Americans, Canadians, etc...) to be very friendly and helpful.

Taiwan's capital is Taipei.
It is located at the northern end of the island of Taiwan. The current mayor of Taipei City is Hau Lung-bin who won the 2006 mayoral election on December 9, 2006.

The proper name used by the government is the 'Republic of China', not 'Taiwan'. If the issue of Taiwan's political status is EVER resolved, then Taiwan may have a capital city.
