Hey there,

I am wondering if any of you wonderful people know where I can find theatre background decor. I am specifically looking for white kites, for an affect behind a rock band.

Any leads?

Scrims? Hand painted, tedious drops, OR,,, GOBOS with decent lighting to project the images, actually causing a moving effect. Certainly more high dollars you can do rear projections, and maybe use Power Point.

YES, I agree, a gobo is the way to go!

A gobo is a small round disk with a pattern cut into it that gets placed in front of a stage lighting instrument. It looks like a metal or glass stencil. The light shines through whatever's cut out of the gobo and creates the pattern (in negative) on the wall or curtain or whatever you're projecting onto.

Apollo is the best company and I bet you anything they have a kite gobo:

A really low-tech solution would be to use an overhead projector to project a big kite onto a sheet or other backdrop and trace it then paint it. Or...slightly more high-tech...use an LCD computer projector during the show to project kites onto a scrim or whatever you have on your upstage wall.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but it conjures up images of large pieces of white fabric stretched across the background, upon which light and images can be projected.

If so, I've actually seen them on Ebay. Or you could make your own from spandex fabric. I've linked the Ebay seller whom I saw carried them.
