I always hear people say "the rabbit died" when talking about a woman discovering she's pregnant, and am curious if anyone knows where this came from?

Before the ability to test for elevated enzyme levels, doctors would draw fluid from the uterus and inject that fluid into rabbits in a lab setting. A pregnant woman's elevated enzymes would prove fatal to the rabbit...when the rabbit died, the woman was pregnant.

they use to take fluid from the woman and insert it into a live rabbit and if the woman was pregnant the poor rabbit died because there is something about the pregnant hormones that a rabbits system can't handle therefore causing his death
