I currently live in Florida, where you can legally own a pet ferret. But when I move back to California in a year or so, I won't be able to go to my local pet store and pick one or two out, because they're listed, incorrectly, as a "wild animal" under a 1933 Dept. of Fish and Wildlife ruling. There are NO wild ferrets, and there is a vaccine for ferret rabies. Why is the California legislature unwilling to remove this absurd, outdated restriction?

They fear the ferrets will form feral colonies, which is HIGHLY unlikely since most of the ferrets on the pet market are sold spayed/neutered. Ferrets are wonderful pets, and it's a shame they aren't legal everywhere. Nothing is better than knowing a weasel's love!
And to those who answered above me, you're f'in morons. Ferrets ARE not rodents, they are carnivorous, and parents ought to be responsible for their childrens' handling of pets. I have two ferrets, and they have never bit anyone. Matter of fact, they love to snuggle and play and just be with me.

Ferrets are unlawful in the two California and Hawaii. substantial clarification for it relatively is as a results of the fact it relatively is feared that if ferrets have been given out they might improve packs of feral ferrets and can kill off the interior of sight animals in each and every state. regrettably it relatively is not actual simply by fact ferrets are categorized as unique domesticated animals.maximum ferrets in the US are already neutered whilst they're bought in the puppy shops.so as that they might not be able to reproduce in the wild. A ferret won't stay to tell the story via itself whilst it gets out. specific it would stay for some weeks in line with danger yet that is an relatively fortunate ferret if it did. i understand that there is a bill in California to allow ferrets besides the undeniable fact that this is been an prolonged time in gadget and hasn't been exceeded yet.
