Is it possible that wearing 1 ponytail too tight is giving her headaches and the teacher is suggesting 2 ponytails to avoid this? I am a teacher and I cannot tell you how many times the message one wants to convey to a small child is lost in translation with the parents. I would suggest to ask, not to accuse the teacher before you get the facts straight.

Is your daughter studying in a convent school???. I studied in a convent and our school had this rule that all the girls who had hair that grew below the chin level were to be put up in two pony tails. Hair longer than the shoulder length were put into 2 plaits that were to be folded. Maybe this is the school's uniform. If you are getting so hassled with the issue then contact the school and clarify your doubts. Remember that children go to school to study and not on a fashion parade. I have seen that in many schools the girls leave their hair loose during the school break and then tie it into a single pony just before entering the classroom. I think the logic behind the 2 pony tails can be to avoid the temptation to do your hair on the school premises. It is hard to make your hair into two pony tails quickly.

Uniformity is good et all.. BUT if the student's appearance is, neat & clean. 1 pony tail or 2.. Why put so much impetus on that ? For Petes sake pay more attention to the academic uplifting of the student.. Me thinks the guru/teacher sure has some power issues. Tsk tsk !!

First of all consult her teacher about this matter and see if other girls are in single pony then you must seriously talk to her teacher. u must try to convince her teacher that she looks nice in single pony. but if this is an school rule then u must follow it

If the teacher agrees to lead by example by making two pony tails for himself/herself(whether male or female), the daughter might be encouraged to follow suit ! Else not please !

Is it gender programming?

It sounds like the teacher has a screw loose. I'd braid it on the top of her head, or leave it down, or dye it purple or something. I loathe those bully power plays, esp. on children, and there's nothing like good defiant performance art to give them enough rope to hang themselves. Watch her tacher's head spin off if you shave your daughter bald...

Thats odd, if it was me I'd ask the teacher myself.
It may be some unusual dress code though I couldn't see what difference it could make.
