well you aren't really giving much info ,you don't mention if you are dial up or broadband or cable.

is it an ongoing problem or just recently.

dropping off do you mean losing your connection or just getting blank pages ,
losing connection would be modem or your provider and blank pages could be the site you want to use or again the provider,
if its a certain site that keeps coming up blank it would be the sites server eg you can't get onto yahoo but google is fine .
unable to get onto yahoo or google would be your connection.
check all cable are securely in your computer and sometimes a turn on and off for few seconds on modem can help ,if still in doubt ring your provider they will help you find out what the problem is ,i could but you haven't given enough details

this seems to be a common problem, what people need to understand is internet explorer 7 on windows xp is actually a beta, the browser is really meant for vista(i apoligise if you have vista)
when i.e7 came out alot of the i.s.p,s hadnt prepared there internet software ect to run correctly with it,bt are a prime example of this as users are finding that there is a problem using bt broadband help while using i.e7,a error will appear, however i have e-mailed bt about this and i am waiting to get a reply
well done on checking for a virus or spyware, this was the correct procedure, but malware would probally not frop your connection,a virus would totally disconnect you
as for my isp bt broadband we are advised that connections can drop when engineers are configuring the exchange to get us the fastest possible speed
i find that if the connection continues to drop, switch off the router for 30 seconds, then switch it back on,if there is a reset switch hold this in for 15 seconds, then let go
this will reset the router and also increase the connection speed, however if you have any phones attached to the router these will have to be re-configured
i last did this a week ago and i have had only 1 droped connection in the last week
finally, dropped connections are a fact of life with broadband, this is due to the shear amount of users on-line,and with the ever growing amount of users signing up for free broadband and sky max,ect this probally wont change
tip:most routers that come with broadband packages are pretty basic or cheap foreign rubbish,do what i have, invest in a good router from a well known brand such as belkin or linksys..i recommend this for a good replacement router...http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=88568&CatId=1217,its a bargain for £37 and has 4 ethernet ports,a wireless version is also avalible..http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=114747&CatId=0
note:allways make sure your router is situated as close to your main phone socket as possible,if you need to connect to a p.c in the bedroom for example, you need to buy a measured length of ethernet cable(http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=102203&CatId=1611)
try not to use a usb connection fro your router to your p.c if you can as usb connections run at 12mbps compared to ethernets 100mbps
i hope this has helped
good luck mate

assuming you mean ie7
You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
