lady cleaned her yard I got it for free. engine turns, put a car battery on it turned the key, won't turn over no click noises from the starter( pulled starter apart it works) I had previously turned the motor with a wrench no problem. It looks like it might have an old style ford starter solenoid but being a dodge fan I am not sure about that. not puttin ford down, I drive a 95 merc wagon. also I put a new spark wire on it. any ideas?

If you put a fully charged battery in the tractor and had no noise
like the solonoid clicking and the starter worked when you bench tested it, It sounds like a bad ground problem. rember that voltage has to make a compleate circle from posative to negative
to work and everybody forgets that the ground is just as important as the posative. make sure that every thing is grounded
like the place where the soenoid is bolted to

Have you tried swapping the solenoid with a known good one? You can also "jump" the terminals between the battery and the starter to see if will turn over.

Check connections from battery to starter then ground, check the coil see if its good, make sure in line fuses are not blown, check all wire connections, back of ignition, frame etc. Good luck
