It stands for curriculum vitae! It is usually a two page document listing your personal details, education acheivement (grades acheived), schools/colleges/university you have attended, work experience or jobs you have had. Also it contains a brief statement about yourself, and your hobbies and interests.

There are very meny different ways in which to present your CV so it would be a good idea to enter CV (or curriculum vitae) into a search engine as there are many sites that offer great advice on preparing a good CV. Also remember you don't have to have just one CV. You can have several, that are tailored to meet the needs of a particular type of job you are applying for.

Curriculum vitae, which is usually more extensive than a resume, and is particularly common in academic circles. While resumes are typically limited to 1 page (sometimes 2, depending on how much you have), CV's can run 3-10 pages.

In France the employers ask for a letter and a CV. It means they want you to send a letter and a Curriculum Vitae.
In the Curriculum Vitae, employers will find your complete address with the telephone number and mail address to contact you, your photo, a brief description of the work you are looking for, the studies you maid and your diplomas, your professional experiences, your competences, your past time and the plus (driving licence, car, particular knows...)
But this term can also be used to describe the strength of a car. For example, we have a well known car named the 2CV (in french, 2CV = "2 chevaux").

Curriculum Vitae - it's basically what you would submit when applying for a job. A list of education, skills, work experience, employment history, etc.
