Why people gain weight after they quit breastfeeding is because they keep eating the way they were when they were breastfeeding. You need to have higher calorie intake when breastfeeding because the baby is taking a lot of it. What is best to do is when you quit breastfeeding just lower your calorie intake and you won't gain weight.

It really depends on your body, I've always had a hard time loseing weight and when I stopped breastfeeding I did gain back like 10 lbs. If you think about it, breatfeeding burns 500 calories a day, if you stop you need to either adjust your diet or exercise more just to equal what breastfeeding was burning. Good Luck I am also struggling with baby weight.

Breast feeding can make you lose weight or prevent you from losing weight. It's different for everyone. But even if you lost weight while breastfeeding you will have noticed that around your breasts and back you can't shift the weight. That's because your body stores fat there in case it can't get energy to make more milk. It's a reserve. So when you stop breastfeeding, you will gradually lose the weight.
I didn't lose any weight until I stopped breastfeeding.
I was always told not to expect it to fall off either. I was told - nine months to get it on, nine months to get it off. But even then it could take longer.

If you stop breastfeeding and don't exercise and modify your caloric intake (since you won't need as many calories anymore), then yes, you will regain some weight. Otherwise, no. I didn't regain any weight when I stopped breastfeeding.

Breast feeding does make the pregnancy pounds come off faster! It's because your body uses alot of energy to make milk. By stopping with the breastfeeding it shouldnt cause your body to put the pounds back on, unless you continue to eat extra calories (the calories you need to produce the milk supply). Once you stop breastfeeding it will just take longer for you to loose the weight, especially if you dont exercise regularly and watch what you eat.

You get used to the extra calories you're consuming not affecting your weight. But, when baby stops nursing and you stop burning those extra calories without changing your intake, yes you can gain weight. I did... after my first son started eating solids, I started putting on weight and gained almost 25 lbs. That's not the case for everyone... but I'm going to be prepared when this second baby weans.

Hello there.
If you are totally breastfeeding your baby you are using up to 1000 calories a day just making milk! That is a significant number of calories for doing almost nothing.
Why are you considering weaning your baby? Unless he is pretty close to two years old there is no reason to do this. I would reconsider whatever your reasons are.
Of course if you stop feeding your baby you will need to reduce the number of calories that you eat because you will not be using them to make milk anymore.
Again I would very carefully weigh the reason you have for weaning your baby.

I think breastfeeding helps the weight come off while your breastfeeding by burning extra calories. After breastfeeding two, I didn't gain weight after stopping with either baby. Just continue to eat right and stay active and you should be fine. Good luck to you.

If you continue to consume the same amount of calories when you stop breast feeding, then yes, you will gain some weight. Your body burns calories producing breast milk. However, as your baby grows older and begins eating solids, you will naturally produce less milk as your baby demands less. By the time your baby reaches a year and you begin introducing whole cow's milk, breast feeding will not be supplying the majority of your baby's nutrients any longer. When you are exclusively breast feeding your baby you will burn the most calories. If you adjust your diet to contain less calories and/or increase your exercise level as your baby grows then you will be less likely to gain weight.

I believe that BreastFeeding has nothing to do with Losing nor Gaining weight, But I'm not so certain, It may take some acess weight off. The only purpose Of BreastFeeding is to feed the Baby. But I know that if you keep switching what the baby drinks off, it will make him/her sick. Like for example: Breastfeed, Then put on formula, BreastFeed, Then put on Formula, and so and so. This will make the baby, not feel so good.
